| Games
have always been used throughout time to bring friends and family
together to pass time. In our world of fast-paced jobs, television,
video games and the Internet, the quality time that we used to spend
together has practically disappeared. Get the kids away from the TV
and have them spend some quality time socializing with the family
in a whole new way – by playing games together. What better way to
teach your children core values and the stories of the scriptures
then by playing a game with them!
Some of the “values” you learn while playing games are:
- Honesty – When you play a game, you learn to be honest
with those with whom you are playing. Honesty is an important
trait to learn in dealing with anyone.
- Graciousness – It’s hard to lose, but when you play our
games, you will not always win! You will learn to be gracious
in defeat as well as in victory. In our own lives, everything
doesn’t always go as we would want them to, but we learn to take
the highs and the lows as they come.
- Intellect – Our games make you use your mind! You have
to think a little about what moves you want to make and how to
best out maneuver your opponent. Strategic thinking is something
we can all use to make our lives better and more successful.
- Negotiation – Some of the games you play will use a negotiation
mechanic. Learning to deal with other people and to make deals
with one another will help you sharpen those skills for use in
real life.
- Respect – When you play games, you learn to respect the
people you are playing with. You do that by getting to know them
on a more personal level then ever before.
- The Golden Rule – Do unto others as you would have others
do unto you is quickly learned and appreciated when you are playing
games with other people! The same goes for your relationships
and interactions with others outside the gaming table.
